Gail Wyatt, PhD

Dr. Wyatt is the Dena Bat Yaacov Endowed Chair in Psychiatry and a Distinguished Professor at UCLA’s Semel Institute. A pioneering clinical psychologist and sex therapist, she was the first Black psychologist licensed in California.

Her 51-year career has focused on health disparities, sexual trauma, and mental health, earning NIH funding since 1980. She has over 300 publications, testified before Congress, and appeared on Oprah’s Speak Sis.

Dr. Wyatt has mentored scholars worldwide and led NIH-funded research teams of color. She has been married for 59 years and honors her late daughter’s legacy.
